2 year agoHere are a few pictures from just outside the evacuation zone. We're just over a mile from the Weaver Fertilizer Plant in Winston-Salem. There's a helicopter overhead and two haz mat trucks, one from the state and one from WSFD, and that massive plume of smoke in view
Fire officials said firefighters evacuated the area due to the large volume of dangerous ammonium nitrate on site. A large quantity of the chemical compound exposed to intense heat can trigger an explosion
Last night at approximately 9:19 p.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 3100 block of New Bern Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located three adults suffering from gunshot wounds. They have been transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries

2 year agoA fire truck is now attached to a fire hydrant which will supply water to the plant fire. It will help lower the risk of an explosion, according to city leaders
